About Us

    Lamka (local name of Churachandpur town) Government College was founded on the 7th June, 1976 AD. It is the one among the only two highest learning institutions for higher education in the district. The college is a co-educational institution catering to the need of tribal and other backward students in this part of the country. The college was taken over by the government of Manipur in the year 1979. The college was first affiliated to the University of Gauhati(Guwahati) and later affiliated to the Manipur University when the state government established this University in the year 1981. The Section of Higher Secondary Classes is recognized by the Council of Higher Secondary Education,

Manipur. The college offers a sound liberal and general education aiming at the development of character and better personality of each student through a wide range of extra-curriculum programmes. The college is a multi-faculty institution providing education in humanities and social sciences. The medium of instruction except vernacular subjects is English. The Modern Indian Languages taught are Manipuri, Mizo, Paite, Hmar and Thadou-Kuki. The college is affiliated to the University Grants Commission, New Delhi under Section 2 (F) and 12 (B) of UGC Act. 1956.
